What should a window replacement quote include?

Proposal formats vary from company to company. Many homeowners want to understand how many windows are included and where, the manufacturer and product series, the window styles and frame material, the glass package, the installation method, what happens to interior and exterior trim, removal and disposal, warranties, timing, deposit and payment schedule, and any exclusions or allowances. Not every proposal contains every one of these items — the point is understanding what your particular document does and does not say.

Can you review my window replacement quote?

Why should the exact window series be listed?

Most window manufacturers sell several product lines at different price levels, and those lines can differ in frame construction, glass options and warranty terms. When a proposal names the manufacturer but not the specific series, it can be difficult to tell which product you are actually buying, or to compare it fairly against another company's proposal.

What's the difference between replacement and full-frame installation?

In a replacement (sometimes called pocket or insert) installation, the new window is set into the existing frame opening. In a full-frame installation, the existing frame is removed down to the rough opening, which usually involves more trim and exterior work. The two approaches involve different labor, different trim scope and often different pricing, so it is worth confirming which one your proposal describes.

Why are my two window quotes so different?

The same window count does not mean the same package. Differences can come from manufacturer, product series, frame material, window styles, glass package, sizes and custom configurations, installation method, trim work, potential wood or sill repair, disposal, permits, warranty terms, labor scope, exclusions and payment terms. A lower total doesn't automatically mean a better deal, and a higher total doesn't automatically mean a better window package.
